CASE STUDY
RETHINK WATER JOLIET
Alternate Water Source and Conservation
CLIENT: City of Joliet
The City of Joliet was in need of an alternate water source, which currently draws water from the Ironton-Galesville aquifer. The Illinois State Water Survey data indicates that at its current usage rate, the existing water source will no longer be viable by 2030. As the third most populous city in northeast Illinois, Joliet had the ability to lead the way in sustainable water sourcing throughout the region. The Rethink Water Joliet initiative started with a study that identified Lake Michigan for Joliet’s water supply. Through this effort the communities of Channahon, Crest Hill, Minooka, Romeoville, and Shorewood decided to join Joliet and formed the Grand Prairie Water Commission. The project is moving forward with the design and construction of the infrastructure needed to bring Lake Michigan water to the region. The City of Joliet hired a team of consultants to guide the Rethink Water Joliet initiative. We lead the communications on this project.
